Course Code: NCT2605
Language: English
Lecture: The Mission of God: Implications for Church and Leadership
Speaker: Dr. Robert Doornenbal (LTS Visiting Scholar; PhD in Practical Theology)
Course Outline:
“Mission is, primarily and ultimately, the work of the triune God (...) for the sake of the world,” wrote the prominent South African missiologist David Bosch some decades ago. Since then, many Christian churches and denominations across the globe have been reflecting on what it means to be a ‘missional church’ – a church that participates in the mission of God.
However, the concept of ‘missional church’ may still be unfamiliar to many Christians and church leaders in Hong Kong. Therefore, the first lecture outlines a theological basis for this way of thinking. We will also discuss concrete examples of how participating in God’s mission looks in Hong Kong. In the second lecture, we will reflect on what being a missional church entails for leadership and discipleship.
Both lectures intend to give food for thought and concrete action, while also being inspiring. They can be followed apart, and are not only meant for church leaders. If you want to learn more about what it means to follow Jesus in His ministering to the many wounds of the world, you are heartily invited to join!
