DOCTOR
OF THEOLOGY (Th.D., or D. Theol.)
a. PURPOSE OF THE DEGREE
The Th.D. program has the following goals:
i. the promotion of theological research and reflection
ii. faculty development and academic careers in theological education
iii. encounter and theological dialogue with societies and cultures and religions
in Asia.
These goals are to be achieved within the general framework of the critical
Asian principal and theological contextualization.
b. REQUIREMENTS FOR ADMISSION
Applicants for admission must hold the M.Th. or an equivalent degree such as
the S.T.M., M.Th, or the M.A. based on an M.Div. degree. An entrance examination
may be required. Students are admitted into the program with the understanding
that their doctoral study and research objective shall be fundamentally Asia-oriented.
They are required to submit a statement of intention of 1,500 or more words
outlining their objectives in the doctoral studies program, and a proposal for
study or research.
c. ADVANCED STUDIES PROGRAM COLLOQUIUM
This program requires participation in the Advanced Studies Program Colloquium
that is held on the first Friday of the month during each semester. An attendance
record of 80% is required. The colloquium provides a setting in which students
and faculty participate in academic presentations, responses, and discussion
on current issues or work in progress. The purpose of this colloquium is to
promote collegiality, academic endeavor, and intellectual growth for learners
in the S.T.M., M.Th., and Th.D. program at LTS.
