ASIAN PASTORAL COUNCILING TRANING CENTRE

In LTS, we aware an increase in the demand for counseling services within the church setting, we hope to provide a systematic program through which ministers may be equipped with sophisticated counseling training to meet the rising needs of congregational members as they encounter life difficulties. However, this program is not just “another” counseling training program, it have the following characteristics:

1. Compounding Counseling skill with spirituality and Culture:

This training program will assist learners to integrate counseling skills with spiritual dimension; understand and clarify the value systems of counselors arising from cultural and ecclesiastical traditions; and strengthen the counselor’s spiritual life. This training will help ministers to utilize their whole person in the support of people in crisis with a holistic approach.

2. Reflective Practice with Supervision

This program gives learners opportunities to integrate theory and practice, particularly in developing specific counseling skills. The design of this program is based on professional counseling training models. Learners are required to have 400 hours of actual counseling experience, over the course of twelve months, under the supervision of a professional supervisor.

3. Aiming to help Churches In Asia

Even Hong Kong church needs counseling training, church in our neighbor countries needs even more. We are willing to utilize our strength and share our resource with them and try our best to help them get solid training in English.

One can pursuit M. A., M. Div., and D. Min. with emphasis in pastoral counseling. In all these degrees we with try to achieve the following goals:

- to enhance the personal growth of ministers so that they may be prepared psychologically and spiritually to help others;

- to equip ministers with counseling skills;

- to help ministers develop critical thinking towards modern psychotherapies so that their counseling approach will be informed by Christian faith;

- to help ministers to be sensitive to specific counseling issues in church settings within the Chinese cultural context.
