THEOLOGICAL LIBRARIANSHIP PROGRAM

Goals and Objectives
1. Equip students with theories and practices of theology and library science to manage Asian theological libraries, especially seminary libraries.
2. Enable students to handle English and Chinese theological information.
3. Help students to understand current library automation technology.
4. Encourage students to face the challenges of Asian
theological libraries.

Programs
1. Diploma in Theological Librarianship (Total 30 credits. 1 year full-time or 2-3 year part-time)

a. Entrance Requirements:
i. 6 year secondary school education or equivalent;
ii. 1 year library experience.

b. Theological Courses ( 18 credits )
Old Testament (3 credits)
New Testament (3 credits)
Historical Theology (3 credits)
Systematic Theology (3 credits)
Practical Theology (3 credits)
Practical Training (3 credits)

c. Theological Library Courses ( 12 credits )
Theological Librarianship Program Orientation (1 credits)
Technical Services of Theological Libraries (3 credits)
Public Services of Theological Libraries (3 credits)
Library Automation & Asian Challenges (3 credits)
Library Visits, Fieldwork and Group Work I/II (2 credits)


2. Master of Arts (Theology) (M.A.) (Total 33 credits. 1 year full-time or 2-3 year part-time)

a. Entrance Requirements:
i. B.Th. or B.R.E. degree with a grade average of “B” or above; or M. Div. or M.C.S or equivalent;
ii. 1 year library experience;

a. Entrance Requirements:
i. B.Th.. B.R.E. or equivalent;
ii. 1 year library experience.

Remarks
1. The program is conducted basically in English. However, as portions of the program concern Chinese theological librarianship, such portions are for Chinese students only and will be instructed in Cantonese or Mandarin.
2. The program is offered every 2 years. Students should prepare to take the intentive course in June before he/she can graduate.
3. The program is concentrated on:
a. Asian seminary library’s context and need;
b. English and Chinese theological materials and information;
c. Chinese and American descriptive cataloging rules;
c. Dewey Decimal Classification and Library of Congress Classification;
d. Library of Congress Subject Headings.
