Institute for Mission and Intercultural Studies
LTS is deeply committed to global mission and is acutely aware of the globalization of
the church. Diverse people groups, each with their own culture, their own distinct ways
of seeing and hearing, come together in this “global village.” With a growing sense of
responsibility toward people of all cultures, the need for adequate education programs
to prepare Asian Christians for this immense task is more necessary than ever. The
purpose of the Institute for Mission and Intercultural Studies is to provide a mission and
intercultural studies program that will effectively prepare those who are called into global
mission from the churches in Hong Kong and other parts of Asia.
Crossing frontiers from one religion or culture to another is both exciting and
challenging. The study of religion, culture, and interfaith relationships, as well as of the
contextualization of Christianity, are essential elements in preparation for mission. The
institute seeks to prepare students to engage in a holistic mission ministry encompassing
proclamation, service, sensitivity to cultural and religious differences, and advocacy for
social justice.
The function of the institute is to provide conferences, publications and exploration trips
in relation to the areas mentioned above. In addition, on a yearly rotating basis with other
institutes of the seminary, the institute arranges public lectures to be held on Fridays
during the Spring terms. |
