Asia Pastoral Counseling Training Center

The Asia Pastoral Counseling Training Center seeks to provide a structured program through which pastors and lay people can be equipped to help others through life’s transitions and crises. The education and training program’s purpose is to teach stablished psychological caring models which weave in sound Biblical and spiritual dimensions. We aim to provide structured practicum experience in order to strengthen or reinforce what has been learned in the classroom.

The center has the following goals:

  1. To enhance the personal and relational growth of students so that they may be prepared psychologically and spiritually to help others.
  2. To deepen students knowledge of Biblical resources in the caring of others.
  3. To enlarge student’s knowledge of current psychotherapies and to assess their contribution and usefulness to the field of pastoral care.
  4. To equip students with up-to-date practical skills to help individuals, couples, and families with the common challenges that they face in church settings within the Chinese and metropolitan cultural context.
  5. To arrange practical, supervised counseling experiences in the Hong Kong metropolitan environment.
  6. To help foster a greater awareness and respect for other Asian cultures and beliefs, as far as practical in a spirit of goodwill and cooperation.

We also have the future additional goals:

  1. On a yearly rotating basis with other institutes of the seminary, the Asia Pastoral Counseling Training Center arranges public lectures to be held on Fridays during the Spring term.
  2. To study the feasibility of formation of a Pastoral Care Center – specializing in ministering to the needs of local families.
  3. In collaboration with churches in Hong Kong, to develop short modules or courses for congregations to cater for couple, family, and developmental needs.
  4. To commence formal conversations or forums with parallel mainland Chinese and Southeast Asian institutions on pastoral care and counseling issues.
